ROG overclocking technologies

The predicted values can be applied automatically or used as a starting point for further experiments.

Differential sensor
Conventional motherboards use single-ended sensors drawn from a location that is not ideal, leading to a large discrepancy between the actual voltage supplied to the processor and the value reported to the software. ROG Maximus Z790 Formula features differential sensing circuitry and a delicate IC that simplify overclocking and tuning, allowing for more accurate voltage tracking.

Advanced cooling system
ASUS HybridChill Water Block: Uses a combination of passive and liquid cooling to achieve highly efficient VRM operation. Copper water channels resist corrosion and provide excellent heat dissipation, and threaded connectors use industry standard G1/4" to ensure compatibility with a wide range of custom cooling configurations.

M.2 Heatsinks and Backplates: Large aluminum heatsinks provide ample surface area for cooling mounted M.2 drives, and each of the three built-in slots has a dedicated backplate for additional heat dissipation.

High Conductivity Thermal Pads: Each thermal pad improves overall heat transfer from the system by combining the heat generated by the power stages with the heat sink. For future maintenance, a replaceable thermal pad is also included in the package.

Solid metal backplate: An electro-galvanized metal backplate reinforces the spine of ROG Maximus Z790 Formula to prevent bending.

Chipset Heatsink: A dedicated heatsink dissipates heat from the chipset to maintain optimal operating temperatures.

ROG Maximus Z790 Formula has five built-in M.2 slots, one of which is PCIe 5.0-ready and offers a blazing speed of 16 GB/s, while the others offer an impressive 8 GB/s via PCIe 4.0 interfaces.

Both x16 expansion slots feature PCIe 5.0 technology, which delivers blazing speeds of up to 64GB/s for compatible devices. To withstand the weight of massive graphics cards, they are also protected by SafeSlot mounting brackets, and the top slot can be easily released thanks to the Q-Release button.

Thunderblot 4 ports and front USB-C 20Gbps port
Each port provides up to 40 Gbps bidirectional bandwidth for the latest super-fast devices and drives. Both ports can be used to connect up to two external 4K displays, and PCIe bandwidth reaches up to 32 Gb/s. The 20 Gb/s Type-C® USB connector on the front panel is equipped with Quick Charge 4+ technology, which allows you to quickly charge devices with a power of up to 60 watts.

SupremeFX
ROG SupremeFX audio technology delivers an exceptional signal-to-noise ratio of 110 dB at line input for exceptional recording quality. ROG Maximus Z790 Formula includes LiveDash, a built-in 2-inch OLED panel that displays useful information and offers customizable graphics. During the power-on and self-test (POST) phase, the OLED display shows key statistics in plain language using traditional POST codes. During normal operation, the panel can be programmed to display CPU frequency, device temperature, fan speed, or water cooling information. You can also personalize the default OLED GIF with your preferred image or animation.

Armory Crate
Armory Crate is a software utility designed to provide centralized control over supported gaming products, making it easy to fine-tune the look and feel of your system. Through one intuitive interface, Armory Crate helps you customize RGB lighting and effects for compatible devices and sync them with Aura Sync to create a unified lighting scheme across your system.
