Selecting the appropriate power supply will ensure safe operation of our computer. Power is a parameter that means the amount of energy that can be supplied to components. 600W power supplies are usually intended for computers used for office work and basic entertainment functions. To check this accurately, you need to take into account the power requirements of all configuration elements. You can add it up yourself or use calculators available on the Internet.
Semi-modular
A power supply with semi-modular cabling means that we can disconnect most of the unnecessary cables. This design will ensure order inside the housing. Users who frequently upgrade the technical capabilities of their computers will be able to easily install new components. Another advantage of this type of power supplies is the attractive prices of many models. The choice depends mainly on the individual needs of the user. However, it is worth paying attention to this factor, because from time to time we will clean dusty components or replace them.
ATX
This is the most universal and most common standard of computer power supplies. It has found wide application. It will work well with both simpler configurations intended for office work and gaming devices. The height and width of this type of power supplies are specified in the standard. However, the length depends on the power of the device and increases proportionally. This is an important issue when selecting the appropriate housing, which should be adapted to the size of the power supply.
Active cooling
Active cooling is very efficient and perfectly ensures proper operation of the computer. Moreover, it is now standard. Its disadvantage is that it is slightly noisier. The slight noise can be reduced by installing larger diameter fans. This size will make it rotate slower. It is also worth looking for devices on the market equipped with fans whose rotation speed is adjusted to the temperature of the device. As the temperature increases, the faster the rotation.
SCP
The power supply is responsible for supplying energy to the computer's components. Voltage parameters fluctuate in the power grid. SCP (Short Circuit Protection) is short circuit protection. It is activated when the resistance in the circuit is below 0.1 Ω. This protection can be found in all new and older power supplies. As soon as a short circuit is detected, the power supply will be immediately disconnected. Thanks to this, we can rest assured about the components of our computer.
OPP
OPP (Over Power Protection) protects the entire power supply against overload, not limited to individual lines. Exactly the same protection that can be found under a different name is OLP - Over Load Protection. In both cases, the power will be turned off when the power consumed exceeds the total power of the power supply.
OCP
One way to protect our equipment is OCP (Over Current Protection). This is protection against overloading the stabilizer with too high current. Each power line is monitored separately. In the event of any overload, the power supply is turned off. OCP is a requirement of the ATX12V standard.
OTP
OTP (Over Temperature Protection) protects the power supply against overheating, which may occur as a result of overload or poor air circulation. The power will be turned off immediately when the temperature reaches the threshold value. OTP protection is required by the ATX12V standard.
UVP
A computer power supply is an extremely important device that is responsible for supplying energy to components. When purchasing, it is worth paying attention to individual security features. UVP (Under Voltage Protection) protects against too low voltage on the input lines. Although this fault does not affect possible damage to components, it may negatively affect their optimal operation. It is definitely worth choosing a power supply with UVP. This will certainly improve the comfort of using your computer.
OVP
OVP (Over Voltage Protection) provides protection against too high output voltage. It is activated when the voltage is 15% higher than the nominal value. The protection operates on each power supply output line and is required by the ATX12V standard. This significantly reduces the risk of failure of powered components.
Passive PFC
The PFC system enables power factor correction, which minimizes losses in transmission lines. In the case of passive systems, there is no change in parameters because they are designed for constant load. The power factor value is corrected by a constant correction value regardless of the conditions on board the device. The power factor ranges from 0.8 to 0.95. Currently, there are definitely fewer power supplies with a passive system on the market, but we still have a lot to choose from.
